About julia Masters
Hey there! My name is Julia Masters. I am a licensed clinical social worker and graphic designer — a somewhat unconventional mix. I received my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan and studied medical social work with a focus on integrated healthcare before providing individual cognitive behavioral therapy in private practice. I completed my BA at the University of Pennsylvania in the class of 2016, studying Psychology, Fine Arts, and Anthropology.
Art has always been a part of my life. Growing up in New York City, I took classes at The Art Student's League, Parsons, and The National Academy School of Fine Arts. I also spent many summers studying art at Buck's Rock, Putney, and the Rhode Island School of Design.
One of my greatest passions is solving problems and understanding how seemingly disparate events, feelings, and concepts can be unified and connected. My social work training and interests in psychology, neuroscience, biology, and engineering enable me to approach design from different and innovative angles, thinking not only about the form and appearance, but also functionality, inclusivity, and elicited response from individuals, groups, and larger societal structures.
Most of my work featured on this site consists of class-based work, but I do design art commercially through JBM – my client-based commission business.
